ARTIST IN RESIDENCE PROGRAM
The Lock-Up's residency program is a core focus of the centre's cultural activity. Artist's stay for a period of two to four weeks in the apartment built onsite specifically for the program. During their visit, residents are invited to take part of the cultural program according to their discipline and cultural practice.

PREVIOUS RESIDENTS
Over the years the program has played host to artists, writers, poets, film-makers, dancers and architects, amongst others, and actively encourages submissions from a broad range of disciplines and locations. The program has fostered practitioners such as:

FACILITIES
The onsite apartment features two rooms - a master bedroom with ensuite, and a combined kitchen/dining/living area. It can accomodate three adults and has at one stage housed an Artist as Family. The AiR office facilities include a computer, printer and free access to highspeed broadband.

Important dates
Submissions for 2011 are due by 31 August 2010. Artists are selected by the AIR board of management in early September. The 2011 Residency program begins mid-January next year.

The Artist in Residence Program is funded by the University of Newcastle who provide a stipend payable to each resident and this is negotiated following a successful application. The stipend assists with the travel and living costs associated with the residency. Other partners include the Hunter Writers Centre and HunterTAFE.
