PETER LEWIS

Dedicated to the two I love, Peter Lewis, 2010

Currently based in Manchester, UK, Peter Lewis is both an artist and academic. He is a Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at the University of Bolton and is actively engaged in research alongside his professional pract. Spanning mediums such as clay, print, photography, video and light, his art practice deals with contemporary politics; drawing on his personal experiences of living and working in the Middle East.

Over the period of his residency, Lewis will be exhibiting the works Exit (same, same but different) and Dedicated to the two I love within the men's cells of the Lock-Up. Alongside these installations, he will explore the spaces of the Lock-Up - particularly as a site of imprisonment - through the medium of pinhole photography. Additionally, Lewis will hold a lecture for the students of the University of Newcastle on his current practice and themes of conflict, politics and systems of power.
